Frequently Asked Questions

Primary French and Spanish Courses

The Language Magnet Primary French and Spanish courses are both modular courses, with each module building on the previous ones, recycling vocabulary, grammar and language structures and then developing them further at various points in the course. Both courses are fully differentiated to support all ability levels. Students make significant progression each module, which is measured with clearly defined assessments and assessment criteria for marking. Students can also track their own progression through the course with self-assessment pupil trackers, which also show how much support individuals have had with accessing the language. The "expected achievement" level of both courses is proven to enable pupils to reach a standard equivalent to halfway through current Year 8 (UK) or 7th Grade (USA) level of MFL education, if all the modules are completed in one language. If two languages are taught, then the students' progression will reflect the restricted amount of learning time.
