The 12 modules of the French and Spanish courses are designed to be delivered over the 4 years of Key Stage 2. Therefore, the course is designed for 1 module per term or per 12 weeks. Therefore, 3 modules per academic year is ideal. However, the modules are flexible to suit the pace of each cohort and ability level.
Each module consists of 12 weekly lessons and there are assessments for at least 2 of the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in French or Spanish at the end of each module. Assessments are differentiated to cater for all ability levels and are as fun as any other lesson activity, ensuring all pupils achieve with languages. If all 12 modules are completed, pupils may achieve a level of French or Spanish that is equivalent to current secondary school levels at the start of Year 8.
Although teachers may start their class where they feel is most appropriate in the course, most will benefit from starting from Module 1, even if their students have previously learned aspects of the language. Since the course is designed to work through step-by-step, with lessons and modules building on previous lessons and modules, it is recommended that you start from the first module to ensure solid develop of all 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the language. However, students can easily be fast-tracked through the early modules if they have sufficient prior knowledge of the language.
Yes. There are easy-to-follow lesson plans for every module. The lesson plans provide all the vocabulary, grammar and language structure support needed for every lesson and are written assuming no prior knowledge of French or Spanish. The lesson plans direct the flow of each lesson detailing which presentation and activities to do and how to do them.
Yes. Every presentation provides flexible text and audio support, and the French and Spanish courses provide QR code audio vocabulary and phrase sheets to support both pupils and teachers with pronunciation.
Apart from our detailed lesson plans, presentation audio files, audio vocabulary sheets and grammar colour coded text, which all provide support directly in the classroom, Language Magnet also offers full CPD support with all aspects of French and Spanish and language delivery. Our live CPD webinars provides teachers with the opportunity to ask questions and our coaching video replay library covers different topics, ranging from aspects of grammar to how to deliver the specific modules or carry out assessments.
Yes. The French and Spanish courses are very suitable for pupils who have English as an additional language. EAL pupils often have transferable skills for their native language and frequently excel in French or Spanish, allowing them to develop their English at the same time as learning a new language.
Yes. The French and Spanish courses are suitable for children who have Special Educational Needs as they cater for all ability levels by providing strong auditory and visual support and plenty of differentiated activities. Our French and Spanish courses offer a beneficial experience for students with extra educational needs.
No. The 12 modules and all the presentations and resources have been carefully crafted to provide the best possible learning experience with a step-by-step approach for each lesson and module. The lessons also provide plenty of differentiation so that all learners can achieve with the course structure. A clear syllabus and supportive knowledge organiser are provided at the start of every module showing all the vocabulary and language structures that are taught in that module. However, if a teacher or parent is a language specialist and wants to provide additional material for a topic, then the recommendation is that the additional language is relevant to the topic and extends the language structures being taught and should not create confusion for learners.
