Yes, they are identical courses. We also offer a Two-Language subscription tier for super-keen linguists who want to learn both!
Yes. It's the same classic Language Magnet course proven and used in Primary Schools since 2016, now adapted for Home Education. The lesson plans and various resources have been changed to suit the home education setting and there are some additional elements, including extra vocabulary and language structures, specifically designed for home education.
Yes, absolutely. The courses are suitable internationally for foundational French and Spanish, aimed at young learners in primary or elementary level education. Although perfectly designed for the 7 to 11 age range, the course can also be used to fast track or fill in missing foundational language for students aged 12 and 13. Lesson plans and vocabulary meanings are all in English.
The Primary French and Spanish courses have been designed for children aged 7 to 11. They provide a solid foundational course for further secondary school level French and Spanish study. The courses are also suitable for fast tracking older children, aged 12 to 13, if they have missed out on primary language education.
Yes. There is a Key Stage 1 programme of topics available for younger learners aged 5 to 7 in both French and Spanish, plus an Early Years programme of topics for 3 and 4 year olds. The content for younger learners dovetails perfectly with the main primary courses, enabling seamless progression and a head start with the main programme.
Yes. Your subscription is for your household, so every member of the family can enjoy learning a language. Learning together supports your children on their language journey, giving them opportunities to practise their newfound language skills, whether that is by challenging each other with the activities and games, performing role-plays together or enabling children to teaching younger siblings. We positively encourage whole family language learning.
Yes. The French and Spanish courses are suitable for children who have Special Educational Needs as they cater for all ability levels by providing strong auditory and visual support and plenty of differentiated activities.
Not at all! The course is designed for any parent to confidently support their child with each lesson regardless of their previous experience with the language. The vocabulary and grammar are fully explained throughout the course, and pronunciation support is embedded throughout the programme. Detailed lesson plans provide parents with the language teaching techniques for each activity, ensuring confidence with how to use the resources effectively. Further support is also available on the portal, in the form of recorded training videos, module guidance notes and full email support. Language Magnet also provides parent “drop-in” sessions in the portal to enable parents to come and ask questions on any aspect of the course and meet other Home School parents who are also supporting their children with languages.
The French and Spanish courses provide step-by-step lessons, making the languages accessible and easy to self-correct by referring to the relevant resources. Making mistakes is a natural part of language learning and self-correcting is a valuable part of the language embedding process. Developing confidence with how to check your own accuracy with pronunciation, grammar and language structures is a valuable skill that your child can also learn from you. The courses are designed to support you and your child at every level of the language learning process.
Yes. The French and Spanish courses comply with the expectations of the National Curriculum for England. The Language Magnet Scheme of Work provides substantial breadth and depth of foreign language education that exceeds the National Curriculum expectations for Year 6 at primary school level.
No. The portal provides a curriculum for parents to use as a tool for teaching and supporting their children with high-quality French or Spanish regardless of their own prior language experience. The platform is not designed for self-directed child learning. Parents are responsible for the login and access to the platform and play an important role in facilitating the learning experience for their child by following the lesson plans and using the appropriate presentations and downloadable resources for each lesson. The lesson plans and presentations provide full support for parents.
No. The 12 modules and all the presentations and resources have been carefully crafted to provide the best possible learning experience with a step-by-step approach for each lesson and module. The lessons also provide plenty of differentiation so that all learners can achieve with the course structure. A clear syllabus and supportive knowledge organiser are provided at the start of every module showing all the vocabulary and language structures that are taught in that module. However, if a parent is a language specialist and wants to provide additional material for a topic, then the recommendation is that the additional language is relevant to the topic and extends the language structures being taught and should not create confusion for their child.
Please email us to discuss your specific needs if you wish to switch languages or add a second language after your subscription has started so that we can provide you with the best support.
