As I was out and about in the local neighbourhood recently, I was spotted by a primary school pupil from one of the classes I go into. She stopped me and said “Hello, Madame Somers, thanks for teaching me French in Year 4.” How often do teachers hear such beautiful words? I think the simplicity, challenge and fun of the course combined with the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the primary school teachers, who are committed to developing their language knowledge and teaching ability, are having an enormous impact on these pupils. Knowing that children are enjoying learning a foreign language, just like I did when I was their age, is the reason I do what I do now. Languages opened up possibilities to me and I know they will for these children too.
